Do I need to own the vehicle the plate is on?

You need to be the registered keeper on the V5C logbook, or hold the V778 retention or V750 entitlement certificate in your name. You don't need to own the vehicle outright.

What does it cost to sell?

Nothing up front. If we buy the plate, we pay the £80 DVLA transfer fee ourselves. If we list it for you, our 15% commission and the £80 fee are deducted from the sale price when it sells.

How is the estimate worked out?

We compare your registration with 194,000 DVLA auction results, preferring plates that read the same name or word, then plates of the same style and rating. Where the plate has sold at auction before, that sale anchors the range. It's a guide; our offer is confirmed by a person.

How long does the transfer take?

Typically two to four weeks after the DVLA processes the application. We prepare the V317 and supporting documents and keep you updated until the money is with you.

What if my plate is on a retention certificate?

That's the easiest case. Give us the certificate number and we can transfer straight from the certificate without a vehicle being involved.

Can I sell a plate on a financed vehicle?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with the finance company's written consent to remove the registration. We'll tell you exactly what to ask them for.
