1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using monikr.co.uk (“the Site”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. We may update these terms from time to time — continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

2. The Service

MONIKR is a marketplace for UK personalised number plates operated by MONIKR, a UK-based number plate dealer certified by the DVLA. As a DVLA certified dealer we buy DVLA registrations on your behalf and handle the paperwork. MONIKR is a DVLA certified dealer for UK personalised number plates. We also provide plate search, scoring and valuation tools.

3. Plate Purchases & Transfers

When you purchase a plate through MONIKR, we buy the registration from the DVLA on your behalf and submit the application. Please note:

  • Transfers are typically completed 2 to 4 weeks after the DVLA processes the application. It can take longer depending on DVLA processing times, which are outside our control.
  • The plate must be assigned to a vehicle registered in the buyer's name or to a retention certificate (V778).
  • Certain plates may be subject to DVLA restrictions. If a transfer is rejected by the DVLA, you will receive a full refund.
  • After payment we ask for your vehicle or retention details before we submit the application. We cannot progress an order until we have them.

4. Cancellation & Refunds

You have a 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, starting the day after your order is placed. To cancel, email us with your order reference before we submit the application to the DVLA and we will refund you in full.

At checkout you can ask us to start the DVLA purchase straight away. By ticking that box you expressly request immediate performance and acknowledge that you lose the right to cancel once the DVLA application has been submitted. DVLA registrations cannot be returned, so no refund is possible after that point.

If we are unable to secure the registration for any reason (for example it is sold before we can buy it, or the DVLA rejects the application) you receive a full refund to your original payment method within 5 to 10 working days.

5. Pricing & Payment

All prices are listed in GBP and include VAT where applicable. Plate prices include the transfer fee (£80) unless stated otherwise.

Payments are processed securely via Stripe. We accept major debit and credit cards. Full payment is required before we initiate a transfer.

6. Valuations & Accuracy

MONIKR Scores and estimated values are generated by our proprietary scoring engine based on historical market data, plate characteristics, and demand patterns. They are estimates only, not guarantees of market value. Actual sale prices may differ significantly. We do not accept liability for decisions made based on our valuations.

7. Intellectual Property

All content on the Site — including the MONIKR name, logo, scoring algorithm, text, graphics, and software — is owned by MONIKR or its licensors and is protected by UK and international copyright and trademark laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without written permission.

8. User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these terms
  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract data from the Site without our consent
  • Attempt to interfere with the Site's security or infrastructure
  • Submit false information when purchasing or selling plates

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MONIKR shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site or any plate transaction.

Our total liability for any claim related to the Site shall not exceed the amount you paid to MONIKR in the 12 months preceding the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If any provision is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.
